Support.
Installing it, what it needs, and what to do when something does not work.
v0.15.0 macOS 14 or later · Apple silicon Windows coming soon
Four steps.
The third one is the one people get stuck on.
Download and unzip
The download is a zip holding MC².app. Safari unzips it for you; other browsers leave the zip in Downloads for you to open.
Drag it to Applications
Running it from Downloads works, but updates install into wherever the app already is, and an app that updates itself inside a folder you clear out will eventually disappear.
Get past the first-launch warning
MC² is not notarized by Apple yet, so macOS refuses the first launch. Open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom and choose Open Anyway next to the line about MC². You do this once.
MC² signs you in with your Microsoft account, which has to own Minecraft: Java Edition. The launcher does not sell you the game and cannot play without it.
Bring it over.
MC² can import your packs from the Minecraft Launcher, Prism, MultiMC and CurseForge. It copies rather than moves, so the other launcher keeps working, and it can fold duplicate files together so the copies stop taking up space twice. Single packs import from .mrpack, CurseForge .zip and .mc2pack.
The ones people ask.
Is there a Windows version?
It is coming. MC² is on macOS today, and a Windows version is in the works. Nothing to sign up for yet: the download button on this site will change when it is ready.
Does it work on an Intel Mac?
Not supported. On macOS, MC² is built for Apple silicon and that is where it is tested.
Do I still need to buy Minecraft?
Yes. MC² is a launcher: it downloads the game files Mojang publishes and starts them, signed in with your own Microsoft account. You need to own Minecraft: Java Edition.
What does it do with my account?
Sign-in goes to Microsoft directly. MC² keeps the resulting token on your computer, readable only by you, so you do not sign in every time. Your password never reaches MC². For friends, ranks and capes, MC²'s backend proves who you are against Mojang rather than trusting what it is told.
Will it touch my existing worlds or mods?
No. MC² keeps its own library in ~/Library/Application Support/MC2 and does not touch .minecraft. Importing a world or a pack copies it in.
A pack crashes on launch. What now?
Run the Culprit Finder on it. MC² launches copies of the pack in rounds, halving the mods each time, until one is left, and your real pack is never touched. Whatever it finds is remembered, so MC² warns you the next time the same mods meet. If you want to report it, the console at the bottom of the window has the launch log.
Do capes cost anything?
No. Every cape, animated ones included, is free for everyone. Ranks exist only as a way to say thanks.
Why can other people not see my cape?
Custom capes are seen by other players running MC². Somebody on the vanilla launcher sees whatever cape Mojang has for your account. Capes you own from Mojang can be worn from the same page, and those everyone sees.
Why does it ask for Screen Recording or Accessibility?
Only for the features that need them. Screen Recording is for recording the game window. Accessibility is for putting a game window back where you left it, which is off until you turn it on. Say no and everything else works.
How do updates work?
MC² checks once a day and whenever you ask from the MC² menu. An update is verified against a signature before it installs, so a download tampered with on the way is refused rather than run.
I upgraded from Lodestone and my packs are missing.
MC² carries the old library across on first launch, but it refuses to do that across drives. If your packs lived on an external drive, that move never happened and the old folder is exactly where it was. Nothing was deleted: the migration never deletes anything. Open an issue and we will get you moved.
Does closing the window quit it?
No. MC² keeps running in the menu bar so a server set to Always on, or a download, keeps going. Quit it from the menu bar icon or with ⌘Q.
Tell us what happened.
Open an issue with what you did, what happened, and the launch log from the console. That is enough to fix nearly everything.
